Landmarks across South Ayrshire will go dark tonight (Saturday) to support Earth Hour 2024.

The global movement is aimed at addressing the climate and nature emergency, and is scheduled from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on Saturday, March 23.

Earth Hour calls on everyone to switch off their lights for one hour, symbolising a commitment to change behaviour and reduce our impact on the planet.

South Ayrshire Council will participate by turning off the lights at landmarks including Ayr Town Hall, Stumpy Tower in Girvan, Burns Statue Square, and the Auld Brig in Ayr.

In addition to the big switch-off, there are several events planned in the region from film screenings to Seed Bomb Workshops as well as “Unfurl Your Wings” - the launch of the South Ayrshire Green Health Calendar.

This free event, hosted by the South Ayrshire Rangers Service and Undersky, will be held in Corsehill Gardens in Ayr on March 23 from 1pm to 3pm.

Full details can be found on the South Ayrshire Ranger Service Facebook page.
