A fantastic 98 per cent of pupils from South Ayrshire are progressing from school to a positive destination, according to a new report.

The recent School Leaver Destination Report (SLDR) recorded a 98.1 per cent of pupils across the authority moving to a positive destination, with the national average at 95.9 per cent.

This places South Ayrshire in the top five local authorities across Scotland, a result that has been hailed by South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Education.

Councillor Stephen Ferry said: "The recent result  highlights our dedication in supporting young people across South Ayrshire.

"I'm delighted that we have once again been ranked in the top five, placed 4th out of 32 local authorities.

"Leaving school is both an exciting and at times, daunting, prospect for young people and it's crucial that they are fully supported to discover their options and realise potential.

"Our education and thriving communities teams work hard to ensure that there are a range of opportunities available and provide first-class guidance and advice on how young people can achieve their best."
