THREE members of the RNLI's Girvan lifeboat team have travelled to London to take part in a special service marking the charity's 200th anniversary.

Operations manager John Gourlay, second coxswain Gary McGarvie and treasurer John Tait were among RNLI volunteers from across the country who headed to the capital for the service at Westminster Abbey on March 4.

RNLI representatives from every community served by the charity across the UK and Ireland were invted to the service of thanksgiving, organised jointly by the Abbey and the RNLI.

Closer to home, the Girvan lifeboat station is organising a number of events throughout 2024 to mark the milestone, including a fund-raising bingo night next month.

The bingo starts at the Henrietta Street Hall at 7.30pm on Friday, April 19, and is strictly over-18s only due to the licensed bar at the venue. 

As well as the bingo, there will be games, a raffle and DJ music.
