Disruption is expected on the A77 between Ayr and Stranraer for the next week as essential works get underway. 

Amey is undertaking essential structure waterproofing on the A77 at Burnfoot Bridge, one mile north of Cairnryan, from today, Thursday, February 29 until Wednesday, March 6.  

Temporary traffic lights will be installed from 8pm on Thursday, February 29 until 6am on Friday, March 1. 

The traffic lights will also be in place from 8pm until 11.30pm on Friday, March 1 ahead of a full weekend closure that will last until 6am on Monday, March 4. 

The temporary traffic lights will then return between 8pm and 6pm from March 4 to 5, and March 5 to 6. 

The final set of lights will be in operation from 8am to 5pm on Wednesday, March 6.

During the full weekend closure a signed diversion will be in operation. 

A77 Southbound traffic will take the second exit off Shallochpark roundabout, Girvan onto the A714 to North Barnkirk, Newton Stewart. At North Barnkirk turn right onto the unclassified road to South Barnkirk to rejoin the A75. Traffic for Stranraer/Cairnryan will turn right onto the A75 and head west.  

Traffic travelling on the A77 southbound and intending to use the Stena Line terminal will not require to follow the advertised diversion route.

Ferry ports will be signposted at either side of the diversion at A77 Shallochpark Roundabout and A75 Barnkirk Junction, Newton Stewart. 

A75 westbound traffic heading to Stena or the A77 north of Cairnryan will leave the A75 at Barnkirk, Newton Stewart travel along the unclassified road to north Barnkirk and turn left onto the A714. Traffic will then travel northwest to Girvan and take the first exit onto the A77 at Shallochpark roundabout, Girvan.  

Traffic exiting the Stena Line Ferry and intending to travel on the A75 eastbound will be diverted to Girvan and from here, will follow the advertised diversion route.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the works.
