Plans have been lodged to turn a Dailly hotel into a home.

Planning permission has been lodged for a change of use of the Greenhead Hotel in the town's Main Street.

The Greenhead Hotel is a distinctive Category C listed building situated in the village square, and has public and lounge bars, commercial kitchen, large cellar/store, two letting bedrooms and owners accommodation of 3 bedrooms, living room, kitchen and shower room.

Documents lodged with South Ayrshire Council state that the business has struggled for some time, and that attempts have been made over the years to sell the business, without success.

A supporting statement lodged alongside the formal planning application says: "As a rural public house/small hotel the business had been struggling for some time before Covid.

"The business was closed in March 2020 and no Covid loans were applied for. The assistance given by the UK government was given to the landlord. The business remained closed through Covid.

"After the Covid restrictions were lifted a careful analysis of the business indicated that it would not be viable.

"In July 2021 the business was put on the market, and while there had been a number of viewings initially, no-one expressed interest in trying to run it as a going concern.

"The owner had hopes of some kind of licensed boarding house/café type food outlet, and had made that desire known to many people in and around the village.

"An interest in the property appeared, but indicated that it had to be upgraded to further any progress to a possible sale.

"The property was subsequently upgraded, but continued to be listed for sale.

"The owner of the property, who is a resident of the village, purchased it in 1993 and has tried very hard to find a way to maintain the Greenhead as a small hotel and public house in the village.

"Unfortunately no interest has been shown in maintaining it as a going concern.

"Accounts are available that clearly show the declining revenue, the increasing costs and the owners contribution over the last years."
