Two men face charges of stealing 1,200kg of lead from the former Station Hotel in Ayr.

Thomas Galloway McLean, 42, and Graham Moore, 52, were charged with stealing a quantity of lead from the Station Hotel on April 17, last year.

In an unrelated incident, the hotel later suffered a devastating fire on September 2023.

Moore pleaded guilty to the charge, as well as admitting to a charge that he culpably and recklessly fail to disclose he had an uncapped needle while being searched by police in in John Street.

This resulted in a police constable suffering a needle injury during the search.

Co-accused McClean faces two further charges of using a motor vehicle which no test certificate issued within the appropriate period; and incorrectly fitted tyres with the front offside wheel had a portion of the ply exposed.

A warrant was issued after McClean, of Wilson Street, Ayr, who failed to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court when his case was called.

Defence Solicitor Steven Maxwell said Moore would be pleading guilty to both charges on the Crown's indictment and had been remanded exclusively due to this offence.

He added everything had been captured on CCTV and 1,200kg of lead was loaded into the vehicle.

Sheriff Shirley Foran deferred sentence on Moore for criminal justice social work reports and he was returned to custody.

The case will call again at a later date.
