Wellington School senior pupils held their Burns Supper in the school in February 2004.

Katie Murdoch proposed the Immortal Memory, the Toast to the Lasses was by Andrew Carswell, and the reply was given by Kate Whillock. The Toast to the Staff was given by head boy John Quartey and the reply was given by Mrs Patricia McLaren.

Singing legend Sydney Devine MBE joined Daffy the Daffodil to launch the 2004 Marie Curie Cancer Care National Daffodil Campaign at Troon’s Walker Hall.

An Ayr solicitor's firm won a prestigious award at the Scottish legal industry’s ‘Oscars’.

The McKinstry Company, who had their offices in Sandgate, beat off competition from across Scotland to be named Small Firm of the Year at the second annual RJ Cuthbert Associates’ Scottish Legal Awards.

Marr College pupil Cameron Sharkey met Tony Blair in February 2004 after winning top prize in a national essay competition.

Budding journalist Cameron won the Scottish section of the Parliament Press Gallery’s bi-centenary competition.

Glenburn Primary had been instilling love for the bard at an early stage - by organising a special Burns Day for the young pupils from its infant department in 2004.
