Emergency services searched for a missing person in stormy conditions on the South Ayrshire coast on Monday night.

Volunteers from Girvan RNLI launched at around 7pm at the request of Police Scotland to participate in the search around the Maidens/Culzean/Croy area.

Heading into a Force 8/9+ heavy westerly sea with driving rain, thunder and lightning, the crew arrived on scene and joined police and coastguard teams who were searching the shoreline.

The crew used the boat's high-powered spotlights to search the area, but were tasked to stand down shortly after police officers "located the casualty".

A Girvan RNLI spokesperson said: " On the back of Storm Isha, conditions this evening were challenging to say the least, however, we have a state-of-the-art Shannon Class lifeboat and setting to sea on nights like these with conditions like that is a testament to the training and equipment provided by the RNLI, where our crew know exactly what to do and everyone works as one team.

"It's a big ask to take someone from their everyday life and ask them to set to sea on a night like this, but everyone of them did so without hesitation.

"Ultimately our search was completed with nothing found by ourselves and we returned home safely."

If you see or believe someone to be in trouble at sea or along our coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Police Scotland has confirmed that the missing person was traced safe and well.
