UPDATE: John McNaughton has now been traced safe and well.

PEOPLE in Ayrshire are being asked to help police trace a missing man who it's thought may have travelled towards Prestwick.

Police Scotland have now launched an appeal in a bid to trace James McNaughton, from Barrhead

The 38-year-old was last seen at around 10pm on Tuesday, January 16, around the Carlibar Road area of his home town.

He is described as around five feet and eight inches tall, of a slim build and with short black hair.

When last seen he was wearing white tracksuit bottoms, a blue T-shirt, a black body warmer and a grey beanie hat. He also wears glasses.

Police believe he may have travelled in his red Peugeot 2008 car from north of Fenwick towards Prestwick.

They are now appealing to the public to come forward with any information.

Sergeant Dean Shankie said: “Concerns are growing for James and we need to make sure he is safe and well. We are asking anyone who has seen him or knows where he is to get in touch.

“He is believed he has travelled in his red Peugeot 2008 car, registration SA73 LVM, to the Floak area of Ayrshire, north of Fenwick, and possibly on towards Prestwick."

If you can help police track down James, call them on 101, quoting reference number 0333 of Wednesday, January 17.
