EMERGENCY crews have been called into action following a vehicle fire on a major Ayrshire road.

One Scottish Fire and Rescue Service appliance remains at the scene on the A77 Kilmarnock Road near Symington..

Two appliances had previously been sent to the incident from Kilmarnock after being alerted shortly before 4.30pm on Tuesday, January 16.

Traffic Scotland - Scotland's trunk road traffic intelligence service - are currently reporting stationary queuing traffic around the scene of the incident.

No update has been given as of yet as to the condition of any individuals affected by the incident.

However, it is expected that emergency crews will be able to clear the scene shortly.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were are currently in attendance on the A77, Kilmarnock Road, near Symington, after being alerted to a vehicle fire at 4.27pm.

"Two fire appliances were sent to the scene from Kilmarnock where a private car was on fire.

"One appliance remains at the scene."

Police Scotland have also been approached for comment.
