A woman is in a 'serious but stable condition' in hospital after being hit by a car in Ayr on Sunday.
Police were called to the town's Castlehill Road around 10.30am on January 7, with the road remaining closed for several hours as officers told motorists to avoid the area.
A 40-year-old man has been arrested by police in connection with the incident, and enquiries are ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 10.35am on Sunday, January 7 we were called to a report of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian outside a supermarket on Castlehill Road, Ayr.
"The female pedestrian was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, where medical staff have described her condition as serious but stable.
"A 40-year-old man, the driver of the car, has been arrested in connection with road traffic offences.
"Enquiries are continuing."
