The new owners of a popular Ayr hotel have issued an update on future plans.

The iconic 14-bed, bar and restaurant Abbotsford Hotel in the heart of Ayr was sold in August of this year after being owned by the Hunter family since 1966.

The property was originally built in 1916.

And now the new owners, Brian and Tina Daly, have posted an update to their Facebook social media confirming that the hotel's Copper Bar will be open from January 5.

A Facebook statement said: "As we embark on this new adventure as the new caretakers of the Abbotsford Hotel we would like to first thank the Hunter family for entrusting us with their beautiful hotel and lifelong legacy.

"Without the Hunters hard work for so many years, we would not have had the opportunity to continue this iconic Ayr hotel that has given Ayr residents so many wonderful memories!

"We won’t bore you with too many words today, but just wanted you to know that the iconic Copper Bar will be open after the holidays starting 5 January with just drinks being served for a little while.

"Paige and Courtney will still be there ready to serve you with a smile.

"We look forward to meeting you all soon, Brian and Tina Daly."
