AYRSHIRE'S Amnesty International group is getting ready to celebrate Human Rights Day this weekend.

Sunday, December 10 will mark the 75th anniversary of the adoption by the United Nations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, also known as Human Rights Day.

Members of Ayrshire's own Amnesty group have participated in many of Amnesty's national campaigns since the local group was formed in the 1980s, and are inviting everyone to celebrate Human Rights Day with them.

A spokesperson said: "The declaration sets out the 30 rights and freedoms which should be available to everyone in the world, wherever they live and whatever they believe.

"Some examples of the rights set out in the declaration are the right to have enough food, clothing and healthcare for ourselves and our families.

"Our group are delighted that we are being allowed to have an information stall at the Folk Club ‘s regular Saturday Singalong session on Saturday, December 9 from 1pm to 4pm at the Market Inn, Ayr.

"The stall will highlight the work of our Amnesty group in raising awareness about human rights issues."

"Anyone interested is very welcome to this very special Saturday singalong session. It will be a chance to take in some good music and hear about the vital importance of defending human rights in today’s very troubled world."
