THE start of the festive season in Ayr had a rather different look this year - but there was still plenty of entertainment to be had at a special family fun day on Sunday.
A host of free activities and attractions for all the family to enjoy was hosted at the Cutty Sark Centre, the Grain Exchange and Ayr Town Hall between 12 noon and 5pm.
The lights on the town's Christmas tree at the Cutty Sark Centre were switched on by the MacDonald Brothers and South Ayrshire's Provost, Iain Campbell.
The Cutty Sark Centre also hosted a Kid’s Zone, portrait drawings, balloon modelling, face painting and a Christmas Wishing Tree.
At Ayr Town Hall, revellers watched a Dance Extravaganza, with local dancers aged between 2 and 22 years old taking to the stage to showcase their talents.
And a Christmas market at the Grain Exchange featured plenty of local traders selling an array of bespoke items.
A Christmas Trail gave families the chance to hunt around the town for nine hidden letters to claim a prize at the Cutty Sark Centre.
Sunday's event had a different look to past years because of road closures in the area around the Station Hotel after September's fire, forcing South Ayrshire Council to rethink its approach to kicking off the festive season.
And the family fun in the town continues each weekend from November 25 with free activities at the Grain Exchange, Cutty Sark Centre and Ayr Central Shopping Centre, including snowflake making, Christmas clay modelling, face painting and Christmas themed games.
