Ayr Advertiser: Alloway

Ayr Horticultural Society presented 1st Alloway Boys’ Brigade with a cheque for £400 for selling programmes at the 2003 show in Rozelle Park.

Making the presentation was John Walker, Brian Martin and Ian Sloan, who are Directors of Ayr Flower Show. Jonathan Bacon and Stewart Robertson accepted the cheque on behalf of the 1st Alloway Boy’s Brigade.

Some of the audience at Queen Margaret Academy’s special version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire in November 2003, which raised funds for Children in Need.

Talented Struthers Primary pupils stole the show at the 2003 'Wintertainment' in Troon by wowing the crowd with some brilliant country dancing.

Ayr Advertiser: Racecourse

Anthea Morshead was appointed clerk of the course at Ayr and officiated at her first meetings in her new role in November 2003.

The 41 year-old former jump jockey held similar posts at Perth and Musselburgh racecourses and was given a baptism of fire when there was a total of 29 non runners over Saturday and Sunday.

Ayr Advertiser: Muirhead Primary pupils got a curling lesson from a world champion

Pupils from Muirhead Primary brushed up on their curling skills in late 2003 - thanks to a World Champion.

Sheila Swan was part of the Scottish team who triumphed at the World Curling Championships and in her new role as Ayrshire Curling Development Officer, she passed on advice to the youngsters during the three-week programme

Ayr Advertiser: Guide dog

Robert Kirkwood took his guide dog Kirk to visit Brightsparks Nursery at Ayr College.

Robert was treasurer of the Ayrshire branch of Guide Dogs for the Blind and the visit was to mark the announcement that the charity will be one of two to benefit from all fundraising activity at the college over the next 12 months. Below, Young Ramsay Yates with Kirk.
