An Annbank resident has once again gone above and beyond for his Hallowe'en display.

Stephen Crawford has spent the past ten weeks outside his house creating the terrifying characters from Alien - one of the most popular sci-fi and horror film series ever created.

The resident was popular last year after his Stranger Things themed Hallowe'en decorations saw hundreds of visitors to his home and gathered plenty of media attention.

Stephen told the Advertiser about his love for Stan Winston - a special effects and make-up artist who led the work on films such as Terminator, Predator, Jurassic Park, the Thing, Edward Scissorhands and Alien.

He said: "I've been a fan for countless years and have made replicas, but until now never Alien.

"So after a wait of more than twenty years, I not only made the original Warrior but also the Queen too for good measure.

"The build took around 10 weeks and was constructed using a variety of techniques. I usually favour modelling with clay, making moulds and casting with resin or plaster and painting but this is very time consuming and expensive especially at this scale.

"The cost head of the warrior was made entirely with cardboard and was meant to be a standalone experiment but it developed into the full character when I added the body by covering a mannequin with EVA foam and foam clay.

"The Queen, on the other hand, was a much bigger project, she was constructed with foamboard templates, filled with insulating foam and covered in aluminium foil before painting.

Ayr Advertiser:

"She is a full size replica but doesn’t have the fine detail I would normally get from clay modelling.

"Time and money is always the enemy so to fulfil the deadline I had to sacrifice this detail which pains me greatly.

"The Facehugger was made using EVA foam and armature wire, painted then covered in latex and finished off with dollops of slime.

Ayr Advertiser:

"It was well worth it though as we dished out over 140 bags of goodies to the kids and there were plenty of adults coming for a look too.

"Last year's Stranger Things had a wider appeal but my 20 year itch for all things Alien took hold this year so for selfish reasons that was this year's theme.

"This might be my last big display because it’s a long slog sometimes and is so time consuming especially when you're fighting the weather when you need to work outdoors."
