The streets of Ayr were packed as residents came out in force to welcome home troops from the frontline at the end of October 2008.
Thousands of people lined the main streets of Ayr as local soldiers arrived back from six months active service in Afghanistan.

Supporters of Ayr’s Pets Corner raised a whopping £1,200 during a six hour street collection.
Some 23 volunteers worked tirelessly in aid of the Belleisle family attraction and managed to collect the amount thanks to the generosity of residents in Ayr.
The group was also joined by councillors Elaine Little and Bill Grant, who dressed as a large bunny and a reindeer respectively.

Hard work by Girvan pupils to make their school eco friendly was an amazing success as they were awarded their first ever green flag in 2008.
The Girvan Primary pupils and staff were celebrating after working tirelessly to improve the school.

Troon and Girvan lifeboat stations were preparing to celebrate the RNLI’s 150 anniversary in October 2008 - but warned that strong support was needed for them to survive.
Crew members were pictured wearing uniforms from 150 years ago and from the present day.

Nine Marr College pupils took part in a mission to Romania in October 2008. They stayed in a mission centre in the town of Chehi and helped out by delivering food parcels to deprived residents.

Hundreds of MacDonald Brothers fans were out in support during a world record attempt in Ayr and Girvan.
The famous brothers drove up and down Scotland in an attempt to do the highest number of instore signings in one week.
The attempt saw Ayr’s Brian and Craig appear at 40 shops and supermarkets across the country in a week with a gruelling average of seven performances a day.
