Ayr's Nanny Mary's was named Dessert Outlet of the Year at the Food Awards Scotland last night.

The triumph comes just months after the diner won the Best Burger title at the Scottish Entertainment and Hospitality Awards.

And the team were over the moon after last night's huge win was announced at the Food Awards Scotland, held in Voco Grand Central in Glasgow.

Media manager Allana Harte, whose parents run the ever-popular diner, said: "It was absolutely amazing. We must be doing something right.

"To have won best burger and now best dessert outlet is fantastic.

"I don't think any of us had any expectations when I saw the names of the other nominees."

The Smith Street business launched as a takeaway during the Covid crisis and the response was so good they opened Ayr's first family friendly dessert parlour just over a year ago.

They said at the time: "We wanted to give families a place to enjoy family time and make great memories around the dinner table, the same way myself and family did with our Mammy/Nanny."

Allana revealed today: "It really hit home with my dad, because the whole idea was to do this in memory of my late nanny. He was quite emotional. We said a prayer for Nanny Mary and it was a nice moment for the whole family.

"We got to know that what we are doing really is working, especially when businesses are dealing with the price hike, the cost-of-living crisis and just coming out of Covid."

She added: "It is such a positive thing, not only bringing the award home to Ayr, but to us as a family.

"We are not a big business, we are a family one. We haver to thank our amazing staff team.

"This is a vote based competiton, so we really, really just want to say a massive, massive, massive thanks to the community for supporting us and voting for us.

"it is because of them that our business is here and because of them that we are coming home with things that put Ayr on the map. That's all down to the amazing support from our customers."
