THE Ayrshire farming community turned out in force for the latest big day in the area’s agricultural calendar – the Coylton Show.

Held at Drumdow Farm, the busy day featured plenty of family fun, including kids’ races, a scavenger hunt, a bouncy castle, a ‘nail in the bale’ competition and much more – along with the all-important judging of the best cattle, sheep, horses and ponies.

The general public also had a chance to enter the show’s pet classes, with the dog section won by Anna, with Fiz, and the ‘any other pets’ class won by Buck with Oreo.

The cattle class champion was a Holstein shown by James Sloan of Dormieston, while the champion sheep was a Charolais gimmer from R. & J. Andrew of Rowanston near Maybole.

Iain Howie and Bruce Guild were crowned winners of the cattle and sheep ‘young stocksperson’ competitions respectively – while for those youngsters not quite ready to show a real animal, there was also a competition for the ‘best decorated vegetable animal’, with Ellie Davidson chosen as the winner for a sheep made from a cauliflower.

A spokesperson for the show’s organisers, the Coylton and Stair Farmers Society, said: “A big thank you to everyone who made our show day a successful one – especially to the sponsors, judges, exhibitors and our field owners, W. Gemmell and A. Dunlop.
