Rail passengers in Ayrshire faced disruption this morning, due to a signalling fault.

Trains from Largs, Ardrossan Harbour and Ayr to Glasgow Central, and back, have been affected on Thursday, August 17.

It is understood the issue has been resolved, but disruption is still expected over the course of the morning as services gradually return to normal.

However, according to the ScotRail website, the 8.07am Largs to Glasgow Central started from Kilwinning, and the 10.07am Largs to Glasgow Central, due 11.12am, will be cancelled.

The 9.35am Ayr to Glasgow Central service will also be cancelled.

A ScotRail spokesperson said: "Train services between Glasgow Central and Ayr/Ardrossan/Largs are returning to normal but some services may still be cancelled, delayed or revised.

"Services are now running as scheduled, we are trying to recover our service and get things back to normal as fast as we can and apologise for the disruption to your service during this time."

Keep an eye on the ScotRail website for further updates.
