The importance of Ayr Ice Rink to the local public was on show this weekend.

Last Saturday, August 12, saw the Skills Showcase take place with many local youngsters taking part in an event to show the importance the ice rink, currently at threat of closure, has to the community.

The event was attended by many local residents who are keen to see the ice rink remain open and continue to play its role within the Ayr and wider communities.

Politicians from all parties attended the Skills Showcase, which has led South Scotland Labour MSP Carol Mochan to call on a cross-party effort to look at ways of securing the future of the ice rink.

Commenting on the event, Carol Mochan MSP said: "It was an honour to attend the skills showcase at Ayr Ice Rink and witness the level of talent that we have here in the area.

"The ice rink is such an important community asset and losing it would be devastating for Ayr and surrounding areas.

"It was positive to see cross party attendance at the skills showcase event on Saturday and I hope we can continue to work in that spirit to do all we can to save the Ayr Ice Rink.

"I pay tribute to all those who are looking to find ways to save the ice rink, I will continue to give my full effort to securing its future."
