Symington's Wheatsheaf Inn is very much open for business - despite being put on the market.

The Advertiser reported this week that the popular inn - which has been run by the same family for 40 years - was up for sale.

But landlady Marnie Thomson, who runs the inn with her brother Martin, said it was business as usual for the 14 strong team, who remain popular for their gastro food, using the best Scottish produce.

In fact, they are set to add a new service to the Symington premises - by making the Wheatsheaf dog friendly.

Marine told the Advertiser this week: "There was a big reaction when people realised the Wheatsheaf was on the market. It wasn't a secret, but a lot of people didn't know.

"We still have six years on our lease, so unless there is a buyer, we'll still be here for a long time.

"It is 40 years this year that my dad took over, back in 1983. He retired 20 years ago and my brother Martin and I have been here ever since.

"We still have the pub with all our regulars, but food is the big thing for us right now.

"We do lunch and dinner, with everything from your typical pub grub to fresh seafood and scallops, and it is doing really well.

"We have talked about making the premises dog friendly for a while and we have an area which will be turned into a dedicated zone.

"I think it is really needed by a lot of people in the area."

Marnie continued: "Though the Wheatsheaf is on the market, we are doing very well right now, after Covid.

"We are fully committed to our customers and look forward to welcoming any new ones who want to drop by."
