AYRSHIRE police have warned drivers to check their tyres for roadworthiness.

It follows what they called a "luck escape" for one driver in the county after their car flipped onto its roof.

Police said that the incident was caused by both the wet conditions seen in recent weeks and the lack of tread on the car's tyres.

They shared shocking images of the vehicle following the incident, as the car lay on its roof amongst the trees.

The tyres which hung in the air looked to have tread well below the minimum 1.6mm required in Scottish law.

A Police Scotland Ayrshire spokesperson said: “With heavy rain returning to the Ayrshire area, drivers are reminded to check their tyres for roadworthiness.

"The driver of this vehicle had a lucky escape after crashing their vehicle and ending up on its roof as a result of these badly worn tyres."
