A FORMER world boxing chamnpion is donating a special item to support Ayrshire youngster Calum Rae's 250,000 cancer fundraiser.

Calum, 4, and his family are trying to raise £250,000 to send him to America for specialist treatment on a rare and aggresive form of cancer.

Ricky Burns, the former super-featherweight, lightweight and light-welterweight world champion, is donating a special boxing robe to aid the appeal.

Calum lives in Troon with his mum Victoria McDonald, who is originally from Dalry and works as a teacher at West Kilbride Primary School, and dad Andrew Rae.

St Andrews Boxing Club is hosting an event in Glasgow on June 8, and will sell the robe to the highest bidder with all proceeds going to the Rae of Sunshine appeal.

Speaking to Clyde 1, Ricky says the robe is special to him, but that he was only too happy to donate it for Calum's cause.

He said: "I've been asked if there's anything I can donate and it's for a great cause, so fingers crossed we can raise a lot of money on the night.

"Anyone that knows me knows that as soon as a fight date is announced, my first protocol is what I'm wearing and getting my kit all designed - this jacket was a big deal for me so hopefully we can raise some good money with it.

"All the world title fights I did, I would give my robe to my pals or whoever carried the belt into the ring.

"The fight with Lee Selby was the only one I've done that I've kept the jacket - so for me it's a big deal."
