"Significant work" is being made on the delivery of the Corton housing development with phase 1 works currently under way.
Developers Swan Group acquired the land holding at Corton from Allanvale Homes (Prestwick) Ltd in November 2021 and has been working with South Ayrshire Council to assist in progressing their ambitious plans.
Corton is the initial phase of the Council’s long-standing vision for the development of the allocated site at South East Ayr.
The site can accommodate up to 2,700 homes with other non-residential uses such as retail, primary school and a neighbourhood centre located at Corton to create a sustainable community.
Funding is in place for the infrastructure works at Corton which comprise the following:
· The ground modelling for the entire site which extends to nearly 60ha to prepare the site for future homes, primary school, retail use and neighbourhood centre.
· Construction of the primary road network within the development which will accommodate a new bus service and access to all development parcels.
· Construction of the new roundabout on the A77 to access the Corton site, primary school etc.
· Improvements to roundabouts on the A77.
· Installation of services and utilities to serve the future development at Corton such as drainage, electricity, gas and telecoms.
Phase 2 of the works will commence in June 2023 and is expected to take around 18 months to complete.
Substantial job creation is expected to be delivered both during the infrastructure and subsequent construction phases.
Developers say that further jobs will be created when the retail and other uses in the neighbourhood centre are in operation.
A new application has been lodged to modify the existing permission for the supermarket site to introduce smaller retail units into Corton.
