Ayr United's star striker has been voted the cinch Championship player of the season.

Dipo Akinyemi has scored 20 times for the Honest Men this season, having played in all 36 of their regular league fixtures, firing them into a second place final position in the standings.

Akinyemi also won two cinch Championship player-of-the-month awards - in August and March.

After clinching second place on a dramatic final night of Championship fixtures last Friday - with Mark McKenzie's late goal catapulting Lee Bullen's men into runners-up spot from fifth place - Akinyemi and his Ayr team-mates are now awaiting the winners of the Queen's Park v Partick Thistle quarter-final tie.

Thistle lead that two-legged tie 4-3 after winning the first leg at Firhill on Tuesday night.

The second leg is at Ochilview on Friday; the winners will host Ayr in the semi-final first leg on May 19, with the second leg at Somerset Park on May 26.
