THE leader of South Ayrshire Council says he "hopes" the popular Pavilion Festival and STREETrave events can return to Ayr next year.

Around 12,000 people flocked to the Low Green over the weekend for the double event, organised by local DJ Ewan McVicar.

On Tuesday, Ewan, from Kincaidston, announced that the festival would return to the seafront for another five years, after a deal was signed with the council.

However, the authority's leader, Conservative councillor Martin Dowey, says the event's return in 2024 is dependent on licences and other permissions being granted.

Councillor Dowey said: “I’m delighted that the festival was a huge success and to see so many people come to Ayr to enjoy the music.

"The atmosphere was fantastic, the event was well run and I know everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed the weekend.

"We hope that, with the requisite licence applications and permissions, this event will come to Ayr again next year.

"We are already in discussions with the event organisers to help make that happen.”
