Ayrshire has long been popular and famous for its many beaches - but which ones are the internet's favourites?

With the winter melting away and the summer months yet to come, there will be flocks of visitors to Ayrshire's shores to join the area's residents who get to enjoy them on a more regular basis.

Captivating views of local landmarks such as Arran and Ailsa Craig can be seen from many of the beaches along the 65 miles of western facing coastline.

But which beaches are the best - according to the public?

10. Barassie Beach

One of Ayrshire's most accessible beaches, Barassie Beach lies to the north of Troon Harbour and is popular for a wide range of watersports including kite surfing, windsurfing and sailing.

9. Newton Beach

Situated on the seafront at Millport on the Island of Cumbrae, Newton Beach is a small and sandy beach which has won a Beach Award from Keep Scotland Beautiful.

8. Stevenston Beach

The popular North Ayrshire beach curves gently round a bay between Irvine and Saltcoats, and hosts stunning views towards the Isle of Arran.

7. Seamill Beach

Located near the towns of Seamill and West Kilbride, this beautiful beach is accessible via the A737. The beach has some rocky areas and is nearby facilities including the Seamill Hydro Hotel and Resort.

6. Ayr Beach

One of the best beaches in Scotland, Ayr Beach has been awarded a Seaside Award from Keep Scotland Beautiful.

5. Prestwick Beach

Visitors can walk alongside Prestwick Golf Club, where the Open Championship was originally played. Nearby there are lots of picnic areas, shops and toilets.

4. Saltcoats Beach

Sitting between the towns of Saltcoats and Ardrossan, Saltcoats beach offers great views over the Firth of Clyde.

3. Girvan Beach

In the top 3 beachs in Ayrshire is Girvan beach, one of the main beaches of Ayrshire and offers nearby shops and cafes as well as a children's play area.

2. Irvine Beach

At number two on the list is Irvine Beach, where a long stretch of golden sand offers visitors long walks as well as picnic sites, parking and toilets.
