A popular Ayr venue has announced that it will close its doors for good at the end of the month.

The Ship Inn pub on North Harbour Street has said it will close its doors for good on Sunday, April 30, which has left a sad feeling among many in the town.

The owners announced the news with a "heavy heart" on their Facebook page earlier today.

In a short statement, they said: "It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we have to announce that The Ship Inn Ayr will be closing its doors for the final time on Sunday, April 30.

"We have had a great four years but now it is time to move on. Thank you for all your support. Simon."

The news was met with sadness, with many people expressing their sorrow at the decision.

One person said: "Sorry to hear this news Simon. Nothing but a good friendly atmosphere before the bus left for Scotland matches and good happy chatty bar staff.

"Hopefully not long before they find another job somewhere."

Another added: "Gutted to hear this. Had many a great footy day running from the Ship whether it be Ayr Utd or Scotland matches.

"You've fought hard against the odds with the pandemic etc. Good luck in whatever your next venture may be!"
