A MAN has been charged with committing a sexual assault at the Trump Turnberry resort.

Ross Ballentine is alleged to have placed his arm around a woman, touching her on the body, and to have then touched her on the buttocks over the top of her clothing at the Ayrshire resort on April 17 last year.

The 63-year-old, of Golf View, Bearsden, was not present when his case called at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday, April 17.

A letter from the accused, indicating a plea of guilty to a single charge of sexual assault, was submitted to Sheriff Siobhan Connolly.

But after considering the letter, Sheriff Connolly said that because of the nature of the charge, Mr Ballentine "might benefit from some legal advice".

She said Mr Ballentine should be present at court in person before any plea could be accepted.

The case was continued without any plea being entered officially.

Mr Ballentine is due to appear in court at a later date.
