A woman has died close to Troon beach this morning, say police.
Residents reported that an area close to the seafront had been tapped off on the morning of Tuesday, April 18 as investigations took place.
Locals described seeing an area close to Royal Troon Golf Club and the South Beach Esplanade car park being cordoned off by police tape.
Officers are believed to still be present in the area.
Police say the woman's death is being regarded as unexplained.
A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: "Officers were called to the beach at Crosbie Road in Troon around 6.50am on Tuesday, 18 April 2023 following the sudden death of an elderly woman.
"The death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.
"A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."
