AYR United's star striker has been awarded for his fine form by being named the SPFL's Championship Player of the Month for March.

Dipo Akinyemi, who scored four times in the league throughout March, is determined to fire Ayr United into the play-offs after picking up the award.

The English striker has taken his tally to 19 league goals for the season - maintaining his position as the Championship's leading scorer - and now admits he has had to re-set his sights.

Dipo said: "My original target for the season was ten goals so I've surpassed that, and now I just want to keep on scoring.

"I love scoring goals and things have been really going well for me. I'm enjoying my football here.

"I'm so happy to have picked up another Player of the Month award after winning it back in August.

"We're now at a critical stage in the season with five games left and, although it's a cliche, we have to take each game as it comes and see where it takes us.

"The league is so tight - there are no easy games and everyone, on their day, is capable of beating everyone else.

"Every team has something to play for now and we just have to see if we can get into the play-offs and see what happens."

Ayr are currently third in the table, just five points behind leaders Queen's Park - but can take a major stride towards securing their place in the end-of-season play-offs if they can beat Morton at Somerset Park on Saturday.

The last time the teams met, Akinyemi was on target in a 3-1 win at Cappielow on March 7.
