FIREFIGHTERSÂ were called out to a report of a sand dune on fire in Troon on Sunday evening.
Troon-based fire crews rushed to the town's South Beach shortly before after members of the public reported a blaze in the area, with police confirming that they received several calls regarding a group of youths setting fires.
There were no casualties.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police received several calls regarding a group of youths setting fires at sand dunes on South Beach, Troon between 3.55 pm and 6.40 pm on Sunday, 2 April 2023.
"Police and SFRS attended however those responsible had already left the scene.
"Enquiries are ongoing."
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 5.55pm on Sunday, April 2 to reports of a fire in the open in Troon.
"Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance to the town's South Beach, where firefighters were met by a fire which had taken hold of a sand dune.
"Firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene.
"There were no casualties."
