A Crowdfunder campaign is now underway to raise £5000 towards the costs of a South Ayrshire railway tunnel project.

And in week one alone, the community has pledged 68 per cent of the target.

The Alloway Railway Tunnel has made a promising start to their fundraising efforts which seeks to create one of Scotland’s largest murals through the rail tunnel situated near the town.

Chairman, Ron Ireland, said: “We want to transform an old, dilapidated tunnel that has been defaced with graffiti into a safe, inspiring place, with a beautiful hand painted mural by one of the UK’s top muralists and visionaries.

“We should all care about improving our local environment and this project will greatly enhance the experience of users of the walkway/cycle path by getting rid of the eyesore that is in the middle of the village.

Ayr Advertiser:

"It is an embarrassment in an area which attracts visitors from all across the globe.

"This is a community project and we aim to involve as many people as possible either in the works associated with the preparation for the mural, helping to paint the mural, fundraising, marketing, social media and many other related activities.

"Our main focus at the moment is to raise the necessary funds to make this happen.
