A one-off special event for food-lovers will take place at Blackthorn salt company.

The award-winning Ayr team are hosting the Big Day Out at Blackthorn on Saturday, April 15, where culinary companies from across Scotland will offer tasty delights.

The event has been created by Blackthorn's husband-and-wife team, Gregorie and Whirly Marshall and is a collaborative, community-based event which sees any profits donated to The Trussell Trust Food Banks.

Food companies including Galloway Pasta, The Koji Kitchen, Mossgiel, The Glasgow Pickle Company, Trodeen Back, Arran Dairies will be on hand with food to enjoy, while Overtone brewing company will be offering craft beer.

There will also be a BBQ pit for those looking to get their hands on some meat.

One of the highlights of the day will be an expert panel of food lovers who are there to answer questions from the audience.

The panel includes Blackthorn’s Gregorie Marshall, Leslie Gracie, the Master Distiller at Hendrick’s Gin, Sonnda Catto, Scotland’s leading nutritionist and chef and will be hosted by Steven Lamb, author, chef, fermenter and curer at River Cottage.

Visitors to Blackthorn will also learn about the unique, natural, sustainable methods undertaken at the world's only working thorn tower and pan house.

Gregorie Marshall said: “We can’t wait to throw open the gates at Blackthorn – it isn’t often we get the chance and this time we wanted to broaden the experience and make it all-encompassing, with wee pockets of fun, flavour, and interest for everyone.”

Whirly Marshall said: “Whatever your tastebuds prefer: hot or cold, sweet, salty, or savoury, come rain or shine we hope to welcome many people to enjoy some of Scotland’s finest tastes in this wonderful location and business we’re very proud of here in Ayrshire.”
