A 12-year-old girl who had been missing from her Ayrshire home for a week has now been traced safe and well, police have confirmed.

Jamie-Lee Harvie's disappearance sparked several witness appeals and a police press conference as efforts to find the youngster were stepped up.

She was last seen by a family member at Irvine railway station at around 3.30pm on Tuesday, March 14, while police previously said the youngster is known to frequent the Irvine, Kilwinning and Saltcoats areas.

And the search has ended in success with confirmation that she was found in the Irvine area this afternoon (Wednesday, March 22).

A statement from police this evening read: "Jamie-Lee Harvie, 12, who had been missing from Ayr since Tuesday, March 14, 2023, has been traced safe and well by officers in the Irvine area this afternoon (Wednesday, March 22)."

Chief Inspector Kevin Lammie, Ayrshire Police Division, said: “We would like to thank everyone who assisted in the search for Jamie-Lee.

"Thank you as well to members of the public and the media for sharing our appeal.”
