A GENEROUS act in Oban saw a taxi driver refuse money from a pie-carrying Ayr traveller last weekend.

This Saturday will see a fund-raising afternoon taking place in Oban, where cyclist Tom Davis will cycle from Cardiff to Edinburgh to raise money for Doddie Aid - a six-week-long fund-raiser that raises money for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation charity which invests in the treatment of Motor Neurone Disease.

The upcoming Oban event saw one Ayr woman travel from Ayrshire to the town on Sunday, January 29 with a suitcase packed with 70 Killie Pies aimed at feeding the hungry fund-raisers.

After arriving in Oban, a taxi driver was shocked to find the passenger with the suitcase full of the tasty Ayrshire treats and after explaining what they were for, she was shocked to find that the driver would not take any money from her and instead told her to put the fare towards the MND charity.

A friend posted the story to the Information Oban Facebook page, which has since had almost 3,000 reactions to the story.

She said: "I arrived in Oban last night, by bus from Ayr, transporting 70 pies for the Doddie fund-raiser, which is being held at The Island Cafe on Coll, this Saturday.

"After getting off the bus, I needed to get a taxi to my friend's and explained that my case needed to lie flat because of the pies.

"The taxi driver, quite rightly, asked why I had 70 pies!

"I explained about the Doddie fund-raiser and when I reached my destination, the driver (in a silver people carrier- possibly Lorn Taxis) wouldn’t take any money from me, instead, he told me to put the fare towards an MND charity.

"What a generous and kind man, and his actions are greatly appreciated by many, so thank you."
