A THUG who brutally attacked a man on Dumbarton’s High Street has been jailed for more than two years.

Jordan Russell repeatedly pushed and punched the victim on the body which caused him to fall to the ground on Dumbarton’s High Street on July 18 last year.

During the nasty assault the 26-year-old then grabbed the man and threw him to the ground before lunging into an attack by punching him to the head, dragging him across the pavement and then repeatedly punching him to the head again whilst he remained on the ground.

This attack, which caused the victim permanent disfigurement, was committed whilst he was on three bail orders all from 2021 granted at the town’s court.

He later pleaded guilty to the charges and appeared from custody last week at Dumbarton Sheriff Court.

His defence solicitor said: “He is in a position to secure employment, and he does still have a tenancy which he has had for a long time prior to being remanded. The property is being maintained by his brother and mother.

“The circumstances were that he was consuming alcohol at a pub near by. There had been some sort of altercation exchanged between him and the complainer.

“It was not made clear what’s been said. I think there is acceptance that Mr Russell was told ‘shut up’ by a female and then the male approached.

“He has to accept what he does is not justifiable. There isn’t a significant record apart from the one assault [and two other matters]. I accept that custody is very much at the forefront of a court’s mind.

“I am instructed to ask my lady to find an alternative but clearly the custody threshold has been passed.

“This is the first time he has been incarcerated and custody has had a real affect on his. He is not enjoying his surrounding.”

Meanwhile in September last year Russell, formerly of Jamieson Court, Clydebank, was jailed for three months for his “unacceptable” attitude towards breaking a court order.

He broke his court order from Dumbarton Sheriff Court that was granted on April 9, 2021 when he was told not to communicate with an ex-partner. He saw her walking on Swallow Road in Clydebank months later and hurled horrific abuse at her.

For this assault charge, Sheriff McCartney said: “Given the period of time, the nature of the offence before me and your previous convictions and the fact you are on three separate bail orders at the time the offence was carried out, the starting point would have been three years.”

Russell was jailed for 26 months which was backdated to September 15 last year as he had been remanded for six months prior.
