South Ayrshire Council has announced an extra public holiday to mark King Charles’ coronation in May – at the cost of £90,000.
The council’s cabinet agreed the holiday, which will take place on Monday, May 8.
Most council offices will be closed on this day, with the education service making an ‘exceptional closure’ request from the Scottish Government for all South Ayrshire schools.
The actual coronation will take place on Saturday, May 6.
The cost of the additional public holida will be approximately £90,500.
The coronation will take place eight months after he became King following the death of Queen Elizabeth.
The ceremony will be held at Westminster Abbey and will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
