The first Scottish Cyclocross race of 2023 saw four Ayr Roads Cycle Club/Arnold Clark riders heading to West Lothian on Sunday.

The Battle of the Bing event, held in Broxburn and hosted by the Broxburn United Sports Club, is the first event in the three-race Super Quaich series for 2023, with the other rounds being Linlithgow, at the end of this month, and the Doonbank Trofee, to be held at Rozelle Park in Ayr on Sunday, February 12.

The competitors in the Broxburn event had to contend with poor conditions on quite a technical course with riders having to run more than usual.

Two members of the Ayr Roads quartet, Janet Tait and Aileen Fisher, were battling it out in the ladies’ race.

The poor conditions were causing numerous riders mechanical troubles and Aileen eventually succumbed to a broken rear dérailleur – while Janet stayed the course but just missed out on the top 10, finishing 11th overall.

Meanwhile, Janet’s husband Fraser Tait battled to a very creditable 20th place in the men’s B race and Aileen’s son Iain (pictured) finished 43rd in the men’s A race.
