Four people await sentence after a mass brawl kicked off on a train - leading to a woman having her purse snatched and debit card fraud.

Emma Berry, 29, Caroline Marris, 55, and Matthew Robertson, 30, appeared in the dock after the brawl on on the Ayr to Glasgow train last year.

Co accused Sarah Jane McIlwraith pled guilty to pinching a woman’s Aspinal of London purse and its contents – then using the card in Troon.

Berry and Robertson, both of Benbain Place, Irvine, pled guilty, with the former admitting assault and the latter breaching the peace.

Marris, of Dunlop Court Troon, admitted assault while McIlwraith, of James Brown Avenue, pleaded guilty in her absence.

A not guilty plea from a fifth accused Gordon Mckay for allegedly trying to gain access to the train at Barassie station by punching and kicking the door was accepted – after he was given time in custody earlier in the year.

The Procurator Fiscal depute explained: “The train left Ayr at 4pm with the first party Ms Marris and Ms McIlwraith. At Prestwick town Ms Berry and Mr Robertson entered the train.

“There was a minor verbal argument between Ms Berry and a witness. Which led to Mr Robertson getting involved in a stand up fight involving a few others on the train. This caused the complainer to become involved and intervene, then Ms Harris became involved.

“The accused Ms Marris Punched the complainer in the head.

“Ms McIlwraith then picked up stuff lying on the floor belonging to the complainer. The complainer then contacted police as she was unable to locate her items.

“Ms Harris made her way back on the train and grabbed the complainer by the hair. Several male passengers intervened. Emma Berry then lunged to a complainer and threw punches at him but none made contact.”

“Police attended and reviewed CCTV. The accused were cautioned and charged.”

Having taken the bag, the court heard McIlwraith then entered the Morrisons store making a fraudulent transaction of £34 with the stolen card. Shen then used it in The Original Factory Shop on Portland Street spending £24.09.

Sheriff Desmond Leslie said he would need McIlwraith here and ordered reports. Everyone was bailed for sentencing at a later date.
