A MAN who attacked a pub manager with a crutch when he was given the boot from a Maybole bar has been ordered to behave for six months.
William McNaught, 30, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of assault outside the Cassillis Hotel in the town on August 13 on 2020 while acting with another.
The procurator fiscal depute told Ayr Sheriff Court: “At 8.30pm on August 13 the complainer was working at the hotel as premises manager.
“He had cause to speak to the accused who was sitting drinking at a table in possession of crutches.
“The accused was asked to leave by the complainer, and thereafter struck him with the crutch. He started struggling.
“The complainer contacted police. The accused was cautioned and charged and replied ‘because they attacked my pal’.
Steven Maxwell defending, said his client had been in the pub drinking for some time before the incident.
Sheriff Desmond Leslie said he would defer sentence for a period of six months for the accused to show good behaviour.
McNaught, of East Main Street, Armadale, will return to court for sentencing in June next year.
