WOMEN across North Ayrshire last week sent out a defiant message that violence against women in any form is unacceptable.

A Reclaim the Night march around Irvine braved the chill to stand up for the rights of women and girls to walk our streets unafraid.

It followed 16 Days of action around the globe which began with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

North Ayrshire Council pledged their support to the 16 Days of Action and are also proud members of the White Ribbon Scotland campaign – a movement which directly addresses men ensuring they understand the scale of the problem and become part of the solution.

North Ayrshire Council Depute Provost, Councillor John Sweeney said: “I would like to express my firm belief that violence against women is absolutely abhorrent.

“We all have a part to play in preventing any form of violence against women and girls and I would encourage everyone to take part and sign the pledge.”
