Two security guards who were attacked at Craig Tara caravan park will be compensated after one was left scarred in the assault.

Kevin Yates, 35, was ordered to hand over £600 between the two guards after he admitted two charges of assault to injury after the incident on October 9 this year.

One of the victims was left scarred for life by the attack.

Rosslyn Walsh, prosecuting, told a hearing at Ayr Sheriff Court on November 10: “At 1am site security officers knocked the door of a witness who wanted the accused removed.

“Security ushered the accused away from the caravan, when he swung a punch at both, striking one above the right eye and mouth causing swelling.

“He was then headbutted by the accused, causing swelling. They restrained him.

“Police attended at 1.30am and observed him restrained. They applied handcuffs and conveyed him to Saltcoats police office.

“The witness attended Ayr Hospital receiving three stitches above the right eye.”

Yates’ defence solicitor, Ashley Kane, told Sheriff Siobhan Connolly: “He is 35 and in full time employment.

“He was down at the caravan park celebrating and consumed too much alcohol.

Suggesting a financial penalty or compensation order Ms Kane added: “He stated he would like to apologise to the complainers”

“He was nothing short of stupid that night.”

Sheriff Connolly told Yates, of Craigswood, Livingston, he would have to pay £300 compensation to each security guard.
