DRIVERS using the A77 in South Ayrshire face a detour of more than 50 miles due to roadworks on the trunk route.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will be undertaking essential maintenance on a section of the road from Friday, November 18 until Monday, November 21.

The trunk road maintenance company says the work, with a value of £222,229, will benefit around 4,073 vehicles using this route each day by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

The work will require a full weekend closure of this section of the carriageway at Shalloch Mill, south of Girvan, from 7pm on Friday, November 18 until 6am on Monday, November 21.

A signed diversion covering 53.7 miles will be in operation during the closure.

Southbound traffic will exit the A77 at Shallochpark Roundabout to join the A714.

From here, traffic will follow the route to Newton Stewart before joining the A75 westbound towards Stranraer.

Traffic will then turn right on to the A77 Stair Road and will continue in a northerly direction.

Northbound traffic will follow this route but in reverse.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
