A PAEDOPHILE caged for historic child abuse has dodged more jail time for preying on another girl over a period of six years.

Sex offender Richard Thornhill, 65, appeared from custody after he was previously jailed and placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.

Thornhill admitted more lewd, indecent and libidinous acts in Troon on various occasions between November 25, 1989 and November 25, 1996 while in a position of trust over a girl who was aged between six and 11.

He entered the girl’s bedroom and put his hand in her underwear and on one occasion sexually assaulted her.

On another occasion he exposed himself to the same victim and tried to make her take part in an indecent act.

Defence solicitor John Gillies told Ayr Sheriff Court on October 20: “Mr Thornhill is serving a sentence on another matter.

“He is to be released on licence under supervision, housed in temporary accommodation outside Troon.”

Sheriff Mhairi MacTaggart said: “What you did was a heinous breach of trust, you need to face up to what you did.”

The sex offender was put on a three-year community payback order and told to take part in a programme aimed at addressing sex offenders’ behaviour.
