Two talented Ayrshire musicians have banded together to create a Hallowe'en love song that will be released next week.

Singer songwriter Dio Zelus (Dionne Aird, 23) and producer Bluewave (Daniel Beattie, 26) will see their third single, 'venom love', released on Ayrshire College's own student-run record label, Sun Turtle Records.

Their lyrically dark but sonically funky disco track will drop on Friday October 28 – just in time for Halloween.

Describing the track, Dionne said: “With ‘venom love’, I lyrically wanted to portray an unsettling ‘love’ situation using the imagery of spiders, and their venom.

“This reflects toxicity and feelings of being trapped - like the prey of a spider would be, spun inside of a web.

“The song speaks directly to the self-deceptive opposite party and concludes with feelings of being able to let go of the past to move on to better.”

Having already worked on two tracks together - ‘what i want’ and ‘lullaby’ – both artists decided their next collaboration should be a special Halloween release.

Despite not being officially released yet, ‘venom love’ has already received high praise, with Shereen Cutkelvin of BBC Introducing in Scotland calling it “the perfect song for a pre-party.”

Daniel said: “The production on venom love is inspired by funk and disco but with a modern twist similar to Sam Gellaitry, Tove Lo and SG Lewis.

“It's an upbeat and dark pop sound that we thought would be a perfect vibe for Hallowe'en.”

Aside from the aforementioned artists, the song was also inspired by legends like Quincy Jones, Nile Rogers and Chic.

Dio Zelus and Bluewave’s work has been supported by BBC Introducing in Scotland and Amazing Radio.

‘venom love’ will be available to stream on Spotify, Bandcamp, and YouTube.
