An Ayr man accused of setting fire to a home in White City was bailed when he appeared to face a charge of causing danger to life.

Allan Brown, 41, faced a single charge of wilful-fire-raising to danger of life after his arrest last week for alleged involvement in an incident on Russell Drive on Saturday, September 10.

Mr Brown, whose address was listed as Ayr, entered no plea to the charge during the private petition hearing at Ayr Sheriff Court last week [September 15] and was committed for further examination.

He was granted bail and will return to court at a later date.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 41 year-old man has been arrested and charged.

"The incident took place at Russell Drive around 4.30am on Saturday, September 10, 2022, when police were called to a fire at a top floor flat.

"The man was arrested on Wednesday, 14 September.

"He was due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Thursday, 15 September, 2022."
