SOUTH Ayrshire drivers are being asked to leave extra time for their journeys due to week-long roadworks on the A77.

Scottish Water says that temporary three-way traffic lights will be put in place in Girvan next week to allow contractors to upgrade a stretch of sewer pipe underneath the road.

Three-way traffic lights will be in operation on Vicarton Street, close to the entrance of Girvan railway station.

The lights will be manually operated in order to help keep traffic flowing.

It is expected that road traffic management will be in place for around one week.

The work has been agreed in conjunction with South Ayrshire Council.

A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: "With delays expected, road users are advised to leave extra time for travel. Advance signage will be in place.

"Local residents and road users are thanked in advance for their patience and understanding while these essential works are carried out."
