A BRAND new Post Office facility is to open in a South Ayrshire village - but residents will be left without access to services for several days until the new service is ready.

The Post Office has announced that a new facility - open five-and-a-half days a week will open at the Claude Hamilton Hall in Coylton on Thursday, October 27 at 1pm.

The existing mobile facility - being provided by the postmaster five miles away in Dalrymple - will cease on the afternoon of Friday, October 21.

Coylton's previous Post Office branch in the area, on Main Street in nearby Joppa, closed in June 2020 after the postmaster resigned.

Since then the mobile facility has visited Coylton for just 75 minutes each week, from 1.15-2.30pm on Friday afternoons.

In contrasthe new facility will be open to customers for 44 hours a week - from 9am-5pm Monday to Friday and from 9am-1pm on Saturdays.

As well as a full range of postal services, the new facility will also provide withdrawal, deposit and payment options, while customers will also be able to order travel money in advance and buy mobile phone top-ups and e-vouchers.

Scott Hamilton, Post Office Network Provision Lead, said: “We are delighted to be restoring a full-time Post Office to Coylton as we know how important a Post Office is to a community.

"We thank the postmaster for Dalrymple for providing the mobile Post Office in Coylton.”

The Post Office has launched a consultation on the planned new Coylton facility, and says feedback can be provided until October 11.
